Our Flu Clinic
Our scheduled flu clinics for this season have ended. Please call to schedule an appointment if your child is in need of a seasonal flu and/or H1N1 flu vaccine.
Sanofi Pastuer has voluntarily recalled some of their lots of the preservative-free H1N1 vaccine given to children 6-35 months of age and MedImunne has voluntarily recalled some of their lot numbers of H1N1 Flu Mist.
Lexington Pediatrics has received and given vaccines from the recalled lot numbers. These vaccines have been recalled because the amount of antigen in the vaccine has decreased over time.
The FDA and CDC are not recommending that the recipients of these vaccines be revaccinated because they feel that the decrease in the amount of antigen would NOT produce a significant change in the immune response.
Please remember that any child under ten need to receive a booster dose of the H1N1 vaccine separated by 28 days or more from the first dose.
Lexington Pediatrics will be following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics for influenza vaccination. The current recommendations are that ALL children aged 6 months to 18 years receive the flu vaccine.
Children with egg allergies are not able to receive flu vaccines at the flu clinic. Please call to speak with us regarding your childs specific needs.
During the flu season, Lexington Pediatrics offers several walk-in flu clinics for your convenience. No appointment necessary. These clinics are for Lexington Pediatrics patients only. If you have registered, but have not been seen by an MD or PNP, you need to call the office to schedule an immunization review prior to coming to a flu clinic.
Lexington Pediatrics is able to offer the seasonal flu vaccines to the following age groups:
- Children ages 6mo through 2 yrs can get the preservative-free flu shot.
- Children 3yrs and older can receive the seasonal flu shot.
Lexington Pediatrics is able to offer the H1N1 flu vaccines to the following age groups:
- Children 6mo-2yrs of age can receive the H1N1 Flu Shot that contains a minute amount of thimerisol. All of the physicians at Lexington Pediatrics believe that the H1N1 vaccines benefits far outweigh the theorectical risk from thimerisol.
- Children 3 and older can receive the H1N1 shot.
- Children over 2 yrs old who are healthy, do not have asthma, have not wheezed in the last year, have not received the MMR, the chickenpox vaccine or a Flu Mist in the last 4 weeks or have not been on steroids in the last 6 weeks can receive the H1N1 Flu Mist.
Please bring your insurance card with you to the clinic.

In past generations, influenza has killed 500,000 people in the US in a year. Flu strains vary each year so the threat has to be managed by the US Center for Disease Control. Even with vigilant management and communication, the US still loses nearly 10,000 lives to flu complications in a mild season.
